This is a resting pose usually performed at the end of yoga class. Savasana, also called corpse pose, often lasts 10 minutes or longer and serves as a final relxation and readjustment period. Though you may be tempted to skip this seemingly inactive period and positoin, don’t! Savasana is the icing on the cake.
Try to maintain centered awareness throughout Savasana to help your body process and relax into the new information that has been cultivated during your yoga session.
- Lie on your back, letting your feet fall out toward either side.
- Bring your arms alongside the length of your body leaving just a bit of space between them and your body.
- Turn your palms upwards facing the sky.
- Mindfully relax your entire body and focus on the growing sense of peaceful heaviness. (don’t forget to let your face relax too!)
- Breathe naturally and enjoy the cirulating and settling energies of your yoga practice
tip: Assume Savasana pose until you’re able to *feel* an enjoyable sense of relaxation. But don’t make yourself lie there until you transition from relaxed to bored. Just like warming up to regular meditation, try to stop Savasana while you are still enjoying it. By stopping Savasana while you are still actively enjoying the pose you are helping to create and maintain a positive association with this important pose. Above all, do what makes yoga fun for you!
