Kundalini yoga is an ancient form of yoga enjoying a resurgence of popularity as it continues to catch on in the West. The recent spread of Kundalini Yoga is largely due to the establishment of 3HO (the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organiztion) in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan. The main goal of 3HO is to introduce Kundalini Yoga to a wider spectrum of people.
Kundalini yoga utilizes a series of asanas performed along with specific breathing exercises that enhance the effects of practice. The purpose of this yoga style is to free Kundalini energy that is stored in the lower body, allowing it to flow upward.
What to Expect From a Kundalini Yoga Class
Most Kundalini yoga classes involve a warm-up session for stretching the spine and improving flexibility. Then a series of asanas are performed. These poses focus on specific areas of the body and include meditation, chanting mantras, mudras and pranayama.
