
Child asana calms the mind, body and spirit, as well as stimulates the third eye chakra. Child pose gently stretches the lower back, as well as massages and tones the abdominal organs. Child stimulates digestion and elimination.
- From table pose, exhale and lower your hips onto your heels with your forehead resting on the floor.
- Extend your arms overhead with your palms on the floor. Your palms or fists can be stacked under your forehead or arms, or can be placed back and alongside your body with your palms facing upward.
- Breathing slowly and deeply, press your belly against your thighs on each inhalation.
- Breathe and hold for 4-12 breaths.
- To release, place your palms under your shoulders and slowly inhale while rising to a seated position.
Modification:
Open your knees wider and slide your arms between your legs, reaching under your body. This increases the stretch.
Contraindications:
This asana is best avoided if you have knee injuries or discomfort.
