In Boston cardiac patients stand to benefit from a new program geared to make the most of the mind/body connection using yoga.
As reported by Boston’s WCVB -TV Channel 5, 49-year-old David has the lowest blood pressure (112 over 65) since before his 20s though he’s on less medication since his a heart attack last 4th of July.
David attributes his increasing health to a unique cardiac rehab yoga program at the Newton Wellesley Hospital.
“The yoga we’re doing is a lot of it chair based, so they can sit in the chair and do poses rather than stand of get down on the ground,” cardiac yoga instructor Ann Knocke said.
Yoga is the perfect exercise for cardiac patients who require gentle, no-impact exercise. The stress reduction benefits of yoga alone seem to work wonders for cardiac patients –those most in need of a reduction in stress levels.
Increasingly, yoga programs are prescribed for cardiac patients as part of rehabilitation following heart attack, open-heart surgery or for those with congestive heart failure.
Yoga as well as qigong have been shown to improve overall cardiac output as well as increase blood flow while lowering blood pressure.
“It stays with you for a while, and I really truly believe that if you get good at it, it will stay with you forever,” David said.

I fancy myself a student of the mystical schools. As such, nothing is off-limits as far as self- and multiverse- exploration goes. I prefer to use the term 'yoga' to mean the development of self, and not as one particular discipline. I seek viable, proactive information on subjects ranging from meta physics and philosophy, social evolution and ethics, to sustainable living practices and natural health solutions as alternatives to mainstream medicine, and in daily life.
